Barnhart Brothers & Spindler Type Foundry originated as the Great Western Type Foundry in 1873. It went on to become Barnhart Brothers & Spindler a decade later. The foundry was known for innovative type design and aesthetically pleasing catalogs – but possibly, most famously (or infamously) as the birthplace of the typeface Cooper Black, courtesy of Oz Cooper.
